The Westmorland Gazette, the leading newspaper in the Lake District, featured my work "Walking Poets" in 2016. Th work was unveiled for just one night at Rydal Mount in the Lake District before heading for a major exhibition in Japan. This polyptych work portraying the English romantic poet William Wordsworth with the Japanese haiku poet Matsuo Bashō was inspired by the Japanese traditional painting style "Fusuma-e (paintings on the sliding doors)". It was exhibited at Kakimori Bunko Museum in Japan in autumn 2016 as part of the curated exhibition "Wordsworth and Bashō:Walking Poets", which assembled some of the original manuscripts of the poets: Wordsworth in England and Bashō in Japan, alongside artworks created by over 20 contemporary artists from the UK and Japan. Photograpghed by Eileen Jones, with Christopher Wordsworth, (Gr. Gr. Gr. Gr.) grandson of William Wordsworth at Rydal Mount.

In 2016 I produced a diptych portrait of Beatrix Potter for celebrating the 150th anniversary of her birth. Best known as the author of “Peter Rabbit” series, Potter was truly a multifaceted person; talented watercolour artist, scientist, farmer, conservationist, entrepreneur, to name but a few. She so loved the Lake District that she left 4000 acres of land including 14 farms to the National Trust after her death. I wanted to pay homage to her legacy enhancing the concept of Andy Warhol’s “Gold Marilyn Monroe”. While Warhol questioned Monroe’s legacy by using uneven gold paint in the background, I applied even gold to celebrate Potter’s legacy in the diptych style. The flock of sheep shown in the picture is Herdwick, native to the Lake District; it is said that Potter saved them from extinction. This work was exhibited at the Lake Artists Society Summer Exhibition in 2016.
