  • Biography
My artwork is figurative and story-telling, with a aspiring nod to the genius of Edward Hopper, my favorite painter. I focus on a person and their immediate environment. My challenge is to capture small yet significant moments, as I invite the viewer to participate in a private state of contemplation.

I want to capture the simple beauty of humans doing human things. A woman is bored at her job, she considers a new life and what that might look like. A young boy practices his piano lessons while day-dreaming of Spiderman and what they would do together if they were friends. A man is crushed by regret but the light flooding over his broken frame is filled with forgiveness and love. Never content with just one thing, I bounce between the figurative and the abstract in my journey to express a moment, a feeling of significance, to fix and hold something fleeting and lost.

As to medium, I prefer oil paint for its unrivaled range of color and luminosity. Sometimes I pair this with foil for added dimensions of light or plaster for texture.

NEW YORK, NY (September 7, 2016) — The Con Artist Gallery is pleased to present BARE a series of new work by local artist Ginger Del Rey in what will be her debut solo exhibition at the gallery.

Del Rey takes inspiration from her friends and lovers, recreating photographs she’s taken in impromptu, late-night photoshoots in saturated paintings using oils and gold leaf. Known for her revealing portraits, her new series is aptly titled BARE as it aims to strip away the millennial artifice, self-aggrandizing selfie-posing, and other Kardashian-inspired atrocities. BARE is about showing a woman as she is, with nothing to hide and nothing to pretend; with all of her insecurities and strengths presented in equal parts. Del Rey invites the viewer to study their reaction to beauty without an agenda.

    Event: Goddess

    Dates: 21 Nov 2015 - 10 Jan 2016

Venue: Pure House Gallery, 473 Grand Street, Williamsburg, NY

I had the great pleasure of showcasing my collection, "Goddess", in a solo show at the Pure House Gallery in Willamsburg, Brooklyn. It was a fantastic opening night party featuring my lovely models, some of them in the same costume in which they posed for their portraits. I also had famed burlesque models, Bettina May and Rosie Cheeks in attendance as incandescent 'living Goddesses'. Vodka Mariette sponsored the event.

    From the solo show promotion:
A beautiful woman is many things - deceptive, honest, sexy, fragile, taunting you or luring you in.... GODDESS celebrates powerful women's eroticism and magnetism - individual in their passions and perspective, realistically painted in oils in vivid color and light.
