Gill Bustamante speed painting a large seascape in oils on canvas

A speed painting demo by Sussex artist Gill Bustamante painting a stormy seascape in oil on canvas. I use wet into wet painting technique along with blending. The final painting is full of energy and is Expressionistic in style. More at www.gillbustamante.com and you can see the finished artwork at: https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/474972585/large-original-oil-painting-lord-of-sea?ref=shop_home_active_1. This was an experimental painting as it only used 4 colours (titanium white, purple lake, pthalo turquoise and gold). I wanted to show the energy of the sea and sky as they both move around restlessly doing strange things to the sunlight. I also wanted to pay homage to seagulls who somehow manage to rule the skies no matter what the conditions are!

Abstract, Impressionist Landscape Painting Demo - wet into wet method by Gill Bustamante

A speed painting demo using a wet into wet oil painting style by artist and art tutor, Gill Bustamante. The canvas was first painted in an acrylic background and when dry, linseed oil was rubbed onto the whole canvas. Paint was then dabbed onto it using filbert brushes of all sizes and blended with big soft brushes. to create a shimmering and blurred effect. The result is a semi abstract view of the light through trees in a spring wood. The aim of the painting was to capture the mood and impression of a walk though a bluebell wood and was made from memory based on a simple sketch which you can just see in the first few frames of the video.
