About Gert Richter
Biography
Clarity. Simplicity. Silence.
For me, Abstract Photography means to look differently at the world. I'm not interested in showing the specific but in the substance behind the obvious. Abstract photographs trigger emotions, thoughts, dreams, feelings, and that is what I want to do.
My work is not the result of blind chance at all, and certainly not of digital manipulation with software. I come from working with expensive colour slides. There is no post processing in the dark chamber or on the screen - your picture has to be right the first time. And so my Abstract Photographs are images as I have seen and photographed them.
I have been taking pictures since I was 12 years. After university (sociology, psychology) I used to work in advertising, as a freelancer as well as Creative Director with JWT Corporate Communications, Frankfurt.
I am German, but for the last 20 years, after five years in Spain, I have been living in Switzerland. I am fluent in German, English, French and Spanish. I have published several books, for example "double stops - new photographs" (2005, no es nada edition).
