About Eva Verhoeven

  • Biography

I am a professional photo-artist, living in the Hague in the Netherlands with my husband and my three sons.

After finishing my studies in Clinical psychology at the University of Amsterdam, I trained as a photographer at the Fotovakschool in Apeldoorn. In the following years I taught myself Photoshop and developed my own style

The main theme of my art is how the individual relates to her world and her fate. In my work there is an acceptance of fate, an openess to the new and to whatever wants to happen.  This is a vulnarable position, without much control, but in this vulnarability lies strength too. Next to this acceptance, and seemingly in contradiction with it, there is also a sense of longing and melancholy, or as the Portuguese call it, 'saudade'. A longing for other places, other times, and even other selves.

My work is all photo-based, every work consists of many images layered and blended. All the images used are my own, I don't use stock photography.
