About Emily Russell-Rhymes

  • Biography

I hail from a background in agriculture, so you can also expect art featuring the countryside, nature, wildlife, and farming.  Horse Racing scenes and racehorses are also a favourite subject of mine to paint. My studies in Equine Science and Thoroughbred Management at Oxford Brookes University, as well as my experience working with racehorses, has given me a thorough understanding of the form of horses, both statically and dynamically, which I use to my advantage when creating equine themed artwork.

Due a downscale in studio space three years ago, I had to find alternative methods to fufill my creativity, and I began to create a more illustrative collection of work using inks, watercolours, and pencils.  This style is something I have really taken to, and although I won't be leaving my large scale oil painting behind, I am continuing to use this style moving forward. I would love to illustrate a children's book, and relish chances to experiment with different styles of illustration.
