About Elizabeth Förster

  • Biography
My current work is concerned with spaces: what kind of space does painting occupy? Can it be an emotional one? In my paintings I attempt to explore the space where we encounter the incongruous. Taking natural processes as a starting point I aim to create a landscape or space that is unworldly and yet familiar, a space that holds relics of, or resonates with nature. I am interested in conveying a sense of incongruity through the simultaneous presentation of multiples: the still and the fluid, natural and synthetic, order and chaos, time passing or frozen and suspended. I see these spaces as ones one can relate to emotionally as well as formally, as everyday life is filled with inconsistencies and things that do not fit neatly together.
