Rock paintings (petroglyphs), travels in the mountains, nature, the elements, ancient history inspire me.
How and why do you create the art that you create?
There is a very big story behind this, and I am only at the very beginning of my journey. Today I work with paintings based on petroglyphs (4-5 millennium BC). This is a series of works created in autonomous single expeditions in the Altai mountains.
Petroglyphs (cave paintings) are images created by ancient people that have survived to this day.
They preserved ideas about the world of ancient people, in the form of mythologies.
Petroglyphs is a language understood in any country and on any continent.
2019 is complemented by works from a series with natural elements in the style of abstract expressionism.
In more detail I would now like to touch on the theme of paintings with petroglyphs. I first discovered cave paintings (petroglyphs) many years ago, during my trip to Central Asia. I was amazed at how skillfully and subtly the composition of the drawings on the stones was created. I wanted to reflect this fleeting sensation and pass it on to other people. And also to preserve the ancient heritage, which has been preserved to this day.
To feel how the ancient artists lived, I went on an autonomous solo expedition with a backpack, to the mountains where there are no people. After many attempts, I created my own style.
Pictures as an artifact. Imbued with the air of the mountains, my perception, color and texture.
How are my works with petroglyphs created? I take a cloth with special impregnation (to protect the petroglyphs from damage), lay it on a stone with petroglyphs. Then I firmly press the fabric with my hands to the stone with the drawings, on top of it, layer by layer, I apply acrylic paint and oil paint. Then the fabric is removed, transferred to another stone and so many times until the picture is completed.
What made you become an artist?
The beauty, fragility, mystery of the world and nature, which I want to convey to other people.
