About Daniela Duca

  • Biography
I am a self-taught artist based in London. I was born in Moldova, where I lived for 15 years, then moved to Italy, USA, Trinidad and Tobago and now live in the UK.

In my creative world, I am ruminating on one particular mood expressed by the color of yellow. What is yellow? and what objects are yellow around me? I find myself drawn to the this colour because of its purity. Yellow cannot be created from any other colours. It is a primary colour in the standard model colour wheel and a primary hue in the less known painter’s colour wheel (CMY). Yellow juxtaposes two sides. On the one side, yellow is a colour that inspires happiness and positive energy – think sunlight and the sand on the beach. On the other side, it is often used to caution us against looming danger, think traffic signs, construction signs, and electric cupboards. In my recent paintings, I explore this duality.

I work mainly in acrylics and experiment with a few other media.

    Exhibitions
Solo: "A crazy yellow theory" at Lacey Contemporary Gallery, 2016
Group: "Explorations" at Walton Fine Arts, 2016

    Event: A crazy yellow theory

    Dates: July 15, 2016 - July 18, 2016

Venue: Lacey Contemporary, 8 Clarendon Cross, London, UK. W11 4AP

First solo exhibition in the UK where I explored yellow as the color of love. Yellow can be a two-sided color: the danger and alertness that it invokes when used in traffic signaling and the happiness, power and energy it can convey in spirit.

    Event: Explorations

    Dates: July 1, 2016 - Feb. 11, 2017

Venue: Walton Fine Arts, Chelsea, London

A set of 5 early works.
