    Tulip festival 2017

Just got back from my second Artist Retreat at the Tulip Festival in Mt. Vernon Wa. The retreat is put on by The Painted Ladies and we had a blast painting and enjoying the company of 11 artists in our group.

    I Absolutely Agree!

    I Absolutely Agree!

I posted this as a reminder to all artists out there and as something to think about as a buyer or collector of art! When you purchase art from an artist you are not only getting something nice for your walls, but are collecting a piece of the artist as well! As an artist, when we create we put our time, experiences, effort and soul into every single piece! It is so much more than just a painting.

At the Tulip Festival Artist Retreat!

Had such a great times at the Painted Ladies painting retreat in April at the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival in Mt Vernon, WA! I was having so much fun painting all the brilliant colors of the tulips. However, this painting didnt even make it back to the hotel that night as I wonderful couple bought it from me before I even left the gardens! I am glad they loved it as much as I did!

    Painting in ALASKA!!

    Painting in ALASKA!!

A dream come true for me was to go on the Painted Ladies Great Alaskan Plein Air Retreat Cruise 2014! 8 days worth of painting in various locations in AK. This pic was taken at Mendenhall Glacier - it was beautiful and nothing I could paint would do this scene justice - but I sure had fun trying! They are doing the cruise again in 2016 and I encourage you to look into going!!

Mom and I... about me and my history

Mom and I... about me and my history

Here I was about 12 watching my mom work on an art project she was doing....One thing I know about myself is I have ALWAYS had a love of art and creating... especially watercolors! My family told me since I was old enough to hold a crayon I was scribbling somewhere! I am sure my mom had a dandy time keeping things free of crayon marks :). But, that is one thing that we share, my Mom and I.... A love for art! (my sister Kathy got her genes for music... I did not, but she says she cant draw a stick figure.....LOL so I guess that is fair!) Mom loved to doodle and draw. I could sit and watch her for hours! I did... as you can see in this picture. I loved art in school- it was my favorite subject and I am so blessed to actually create art now that people love enough to purchase from me! One of my first art memories was winning second place in a fire prevention poster contest in elementary school and the "art show" was hung in the middle of our tiny Lewis County mall... I was just as excited with that first show and award as I am still today when I pull out a win at a show! I guess creating has just always been my favorite thing to do... I still would rather take a studio day anytime over washing dishes and laundry... yuck! My love of watercolors started very young too... do you remember those coloring books that you used a brush and just added water and the colors would just appear? Those had me fascinated for days...watching the colors mingle in the water- I would want to complete the whole book as soon as I received it! I also had a BFF that for my 7th birthday (I know it was my 7th as I have the pics) who bought me my first watercolor pan set... I used every drop I could out of it... with friends like that it is no surprise Yvonne and I still talk on Facebook to this very day! I tease her that she "started" this!! I am grateful for all of my friends and family who have supported me along my journey and I look forward to more and more to come!
