About Martin Williamson (cobbybrook)

  • Biography
I am a painter of landscapes and buildings within the landscape. Human figures rarely, if ever, appear in my work - I am more interested in the marks left by Man than Man itself.

To me, my paintings are a natural conclusion to an interaction with a place. They are a result of time spent in the elements, walking, sketching, painting, remembering; they are my reaction to the spirit of place. I sometimes work on location, sometimes I work from memories of a place, or drawings or photographs. I do not try to recreate an exact copy of what I see, but more an interpretation of an experience of somewhere.

My work has featured in numerous publications, including: the Yorkshire regional magazine 'The Dalesman' (May 2011), The Yorkshire Post newspaper (June 2011), The Guardian website (June 2011), regional magazine 'Northern Life' (Spring 2013) and the Channel island's magazine 'Sark Life' (Issue 14, Summer 2014).

My paintings hang in private collections throughout the world and organisations such as The Friends Of Friendless Churches, The National Churches Trust and The Stowe House Preservation Group own original paintings. I regularly raise funds for charitable organisations through the sale of my artwork, or the sale of prints or merchandise carrying reproductions of my work.

Thank you for your interest; I do hope you enjoy browsing my portfolio.
