About Anita Revel

  • Biography

I prefer to work in acrylics, beginning each project with a beautiful word or affirmation in mind, and letting that vibration infuse itself into each piece.

I tend to work “big”, using bright colours, with ethereal backgrounds, vibrant motifs and symbols as overlays.

I work out of my studio in Cowaramup, in a converted dairy shed, and am visited by our resident peacock at least every 10 minutes.

    Event: Colour Me Happier

    Dates: Feb. 1, 2017 - Feb. 28, 2017

Venue: Foyer Gallery, Margaret River Cultural Centre, Margaret River, Western Australia

The exhibition is made up of eight large-scale abstract paintings. The colours are blended to foster a positive, emotional state of being, and treated in my “prism” style of painting — highly textured work with a colourful underlay, superimposed with white stylised squares.

The hero of the exhibition is a large scale abstract called Ecstatic Dance of the Cosmic Soul, which was on display at the Margaret River Chocolate Company until recently.

The exhibition included an installation of 42 abstract paintings exploring what values and virtues might look like if expressed in colour.

    Event: Colour Me Happy

    Dates: Feb. 1, 2016 - March 31, 2016

Venue: Cocoon Gallery, Fern Avenue, Margaret River, Western Australia

A CELEBRATION OF 50 STATES OF HAPPINESS THROUGH COLOUR, WORDS & SYMBOLISM

This exhibition is made up of 50 hand-painted prints featuring colour, states of happiness, and one champion piece, Owl.

The hand-painted prints are a result of layering five lino prints, and hand-painting the owls as the final layer. The repeated motifs throughout create a sense of rhythm and movement that is both healing and stimulating at the same time.

I also channelled an affirmation to describe what it feels like to be in each state of happiness, which is hand-written on the back of each piece in this collection.
