About Amy Leckie

  • Biography
I am a contemporary Scottish landscape artist currently splitting my time between the village of Fintry and the Isle of Bute. I find painting a time of meditation and a welcome antidote to the busy lives which we all lead. It allows me to spend time outdoors studying the environment. Painting remote beaches or mountains gives me the opportunity to gain from these environments whilst preserving their pristine nature. I enjoy the epic isolation of the Scottish west coast and the colours that are evoked in this changing environment through the seasons. In my paintings I try to create an awareness of these remote and magnificent but delicate ecosystems. I love sharing images of these beautiful scenes. I have worked hard on my artistic career throughout lockdown. When processing sales I ensure artwork is packaged quickly and professionally as I feel this is a part of the end product. This has been confirmed by online feedback regarding the quality and speed of delivery. My painting process involves many steps, for example using underpaintings with random marks or textured papers. I then enjoy creating order from this 'chaos' by rationalising these marks into the vision I have for the finished piece. This organisational process is very calming, even spiritual. Achieving the balance of which under painting marks remain and which to cover is a key theme in my work. My earlier pieces had more realism and formal structure but I am finding that as I evolve as an artist I have a tendency towards more abstract mark making.
