Alvaro (Al) Rojas was born in Colombia S.A., at the age of ten, his family moved to Astoria, Queens N.Y., were he attended elementary school, high school and one year at Queens Collage. Al also attended Jacksonville University and Florida International University (FIU) were, in both Universities, he attended art classes. At FIU, were he graduated with a Bachelor in Engineering, a class on art critique set Al on a 40 year path to develop his art and technique that he currently uses to generate his works.
Groups of geometric and figurative forms on abstract backgrounds or city-scapes are the main theme of Al's works. His goal is that viewers may see in his works an interesting color combination, a new line or form and that the work stimulates the imagination of the viewer.
Art for Al has been a way to take time out of the corporate world and has been a source of reflection and tranquility. His art provides a different perspective for his dayly activities were he can explore his inner thoughts and organize his life's direction.
Al's primary influence has been Surrealism and Abstract Expressionist movements and artist associated with these movements and most of 20th Century art. But his main source of inspiration is his inner self were his life's experiences, growing up Colombia and Queens N.Y., his schooling, and working and traveling through out the Americas during his corporate career come to be incorporated and manifested in his 2D works of art.
