About Alma de Leeuw - van Wilgenburg

  • Biography
I'm a Dutch artist, mostly painting with acrylics and in layers. Painting was for me a lifelong, varied journey from the figurative to the abstract and than back to realistic work and it is an inseparable part of my life. I lived for 14 years in Portugal and during these years my subjects were still-lifes, cats, chickens and the weathered beauty of old doors, windows and abandoned boats. Since 2009 I'm back again in the Netherlands. Here, surrounded by wide vistas of the Flevoland polder, I've broadened my work to include its rhythmic landscapes of tilled earth and thick clay divided into colourful planes and its colonnades of trees. In the early spring I draw my inspiration from the Mondriaan-like precision of the rows of tulips in the fields and the unending expanse of blue and cloudy skies unique tot the polder. I'm looking for silence, in this I'm inspired by Bênoit trimborn.
