About Alexandra Leadbeater

  • Biography

Living by the sea on the south coast, I make paintings of the ocean from the nearest wave to the distant horizon, in watercolour, acrylic, and mixed media.  I usually work in layers, often using combinations of printmaking techniques over painted surfaces.

I try to work with an energy like the ocean itself, with paint dripped, poured and scraped back in a state of constant change between ebb and flow. This process of painting is about allowing the paint itself to take the form of a wave, rather than depicting the sea in paint. Paintings of the sea are all sizes... from an inch, yard or nautical mile...!

I also make paintings and prints of domestic objects such as timeless rusty enamel jugs, shells and birds which are usually life-size.

My work can be supplied with frame and mount if required.
