Early evening, a couple, briefly absent from the scene, are enjoying a glass of wine and some olives. The lowering evening sun is pouring in through the sash window, making the pink jacket glow. Reflections in the polished floor, shadows and distortions through the glasses and bottle add to the heightened realism. Layers of paint, carefully built up, give a depth and richness to the painting.
