Like much of my recent work, this painting is inspired by the urban environment. It was based on a wall full of peeling posters and the small fragments of images and text that were randomly left on it once the rest had been stripped away. I like the element of chance involved in the creation of these images, and my own working process is also based partly on chance, as I build up layers of paint, then scrape some away, revealing something of the layers beneath in ways that are hard to predict.
