Part of the old gate for lock 25E (Rotcher Lock) on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal between Slaithwaite and Marsden in West Yorkshire.
The lock gates were renewed around 2003, and the old gates were just stacked on top of each other on the far side of the towpath, which is quite wide at this point.
They lay there for several years, slowly rusting and disintegrating; changing colour with the seasons and growing moss... until one day in 2009, I discovered they'd been spirited away...
The photograph is a close-up of one of the gate paddle openings; a rather beautiful 'detail' in a landscape, where details are so often overlooked.
The print is unframed with an image size of 40 x 30cms. It will therefore fit perfectly into a standard (Ikea) 50 x 40cms frame, with a 39 x 29cms window mount opening.
Archival inks on Hahnemuhle 300gsm paper. The print is signed and numbered.
