Few saints in the entire Christian world have been honored as long ago as St. George.
In the 3rd century, Juraj boldly defended the Christian faith against the Roman emperor Diocletian. The emperor had him thrown into prison, had him tortured and finally beheaded.
Respect for this martyr spread very quickly. The oldest temple, which was dedicated to St. George, had already been built by Emperor Constantine the Great in the first half of the 4th century. Later, many temples dedicated to him were built all over the world.
Since St. Juraj, a peasant by origin, is the patron saint of knights and soldiers, painting is an optimal complement especially for such oriented people. But also those who feel the need to protect the Christian faith.
