This work was inspired by famous Paul Gauguin. I found an old black/ white photo of him on internet and I tried show the relaxed but somewhat anxious posture of his body and the gaze staring into the void. My friends have said it is a good expression of today’s covid time because of these characteristics of the picture. I tried to create the image using “gauguin” colors, emphasizing the restless orange-blue complementary contrast. And why I put “my first” in the title of the painting: a bit of a joke with meaning of the words. But famous Gauguin was one of the first painters I studied in detail many years ago. Picture is on gray paper for pastel 180 g per m, protected by Talens fixatief for pastel.
dry pastel, paper 180 g
