One of a series of paintings from earlier in the year when I was trying things out, in this case trying to make a strong and interesting painting out of a relatively ordinary location. I tried to keep the shapes strong and simple, massing the cloud at the top and joining the areas of trees and bushes into simpler shapes. There is also a frisson of threat from the large cloud - is it a forest fire or storm approaching?
Kingley Vale near Chichester in the UK in fact has a fantastic grove of ancient yew trees so I do the name of the location an injustice by calling it ordinary...
