The romance of Eastern gardens inspires hanami. The depth of the background pearlesque resin is particularly enhanced by the delicate petal texture, which is the unique feature of my cherry blossom series. I hand cut individual petals from a special material and then it's a laborious process of placing and overlapping onto the resin surface while it's curing. Then the petal material is carefully removed, leaving its impression on the surface of the resin. It is a self-taught technique discovered through experimentation. I feel the striking deep red of the foreground flowers adds a romance to this piece.
