By placing the traditional headdress of the founder of the ‘Temne’ tribe, of which my family have been affiliated to, I seek to elevate the often undermined female Sierra Leonean figure.
Outdated stereotypical gender roles are often adhered to in Islamic West African cultures. This work creates a new found matriarchal paradigm with this re-presentation of power.
