Original artwork description:

This is La Place d’Italie, in Paris, as the morning sun rises above the modern high rises of the southern edge of this major carrefour of the city. As one walks up towards the large roundabout looking southwest, the rising sun throws everything in silhouette and the rays of sunshine blaze against one’s visions like laser beams.

There is an airplane in trouble above, as if trying to dodge the rays of the rising sun. At the center of the painting, right by a burnt out automobile, there is an alien figure with a crown growing from its forehead. People scurry on below, or perhaps they are only their apparitions. Strangely, these people wear coats with the color of the French flag. The man in blue looks strangely like Jean Paul Belmondo.

At the center of the painting is the white alien figure with an in-grown crown. The piece was painted during the first lockdown of the recent pandemic and evokes the tenuous hold of time we have, it’s fleeting nature.

Materials used:

Oil on linen canvas
